Charlton Farm is in the centre of the triangle of historic towns of Bath to the north (10 miles), Wells to the west (11 miles) and Bradford-on-Avon to the east (12 miles). All of these have a wealth of beautiful architecture, dedicated sightseeing tours and renowned shopping opportunities.
Charlton is one mile from the village of Kilmersdon, where the 'Jack and Jill' rhyme originated. The hill between the two villages makes it perfectly clear why Jack fell down and broke his crown!
In the more immediate locality, Charlton is in the heart of the Mendip hills and is located in the midst of the former Somerset coal mining heartland. The old mining towns of Radstock and Midsomer Norton are within 2 miles, with a mining museum in the former and many visible reminders of past times in the surrounding villages and countryside.
Radstock and Midsomer Norton boast all possible amenities, including post offices, supermarkets, banks and chemists. In addition there are a wide range of local village pubs within a 10 minute drive, offering the whole range from pub grub to cider house to gastro pub experiences to suit all tastes and budgets. There are two pubs within walking distance (one mile / 20 minutes). For hardened urban dwellers there is a late shop, petrol station, fish and chip shop, Indian restaurant and a Chinese restaurant all within a 5 minute drive. Most importantly Dominos Pizza deliver to the door!
A huge range of outdoor activities are available within the local area.
WALKING - both straight from the house or in the Mendips.
CYCLING - level cycle path along disused railway line within 2 miles - perfect for teaching children.
RIDING - several trekking centres within short drive.
